02.08 - Gobelin Valley, Einöde und Islands in the Sky

The next morning we get up relatively early. We are in the middle of the desert, not a single tree, nothing to protect us from the sun which shines bright again after yesterday´s and the night´s incredible rain.
We do our stuff to get ready and head towards Goblin Valley again. There we spend about an hour climbing aroud on the funny Goblins and taking lots of pictures. Klaus tries to take a picture of the four of us, but Selma´s Camera only allows a 10 second timer, so Klaus has to run to the place and climb up the Goblin really fast. After about 5 more or less failed attempts, Erik has to do it:

We then start the rather long trip to Moab. The idea is to stop in Green Valley to do some shopping, because we are pretty much out of everything. However, Green Valley is a completely hopeless town with a few motels and gas stations, none of which carry bread (we already know how difficult it is in Utah to get bread - more difficult than beer!). So we buy 2 gallons of water at an outrageous price and a canteloupe and go on.

Before we get to Moab, KLaus does a little detour through the "Island in the Sky" part of Canyonlands, which consists largely of viewpoints and tiny hikes. We do go and see Mesa Arch, which Markus finds really exciting, as you can see:

Klaus and Erik get off at a few other viewpoints to climb around a bit on the rocks and take pictures:

After that, we go to Moab. We finally manage to find a supermarket that really passes as a supermarket and sells everything, even bread!!! But no whine... And then we go to the Koab Campground in Moab to settle down for the evening. Everyone kind of does a few things they need to do, we play a few card games, go to the swimming pool and plan the next few days.

At 8:00 we decide to go to the "Blu Pig" which Klaus claims to be a very famous Blues Club in Moab and only until the kids really want to know what it is famous for, he admits it is not famous at all. We reserve a table at 9:00, walk around town, and then have delicious "Tri-Tips", which we already had in Calistoga. We sit outside, listen to live music, and Markus finds it very, very "chilly". Almost as cool as Barcelo!

The night is not very fortunate, since we all ate too much, it is really, really hot, and the air condition is noisy, so only after a few hours of turning around in our beds we manage to fall asleep.
