Well, after a nice shower in a nice and SPACIOUS hotel room, we checked out and went to take the Deuce bus to go back to our Campground next to the Circus Circus hotel. I couldn´t stop checking all the colorful signs and screens announcing the different shows: Seinfeld is having a comedy one (what else), there are some gus doing a Mo-Town revival and in The Mirage (where we stayed) there was the Beatles Love Show with the Cirque Du Soleil. We would have loved to see the latter but it wasn´t playing on Tuesday. Well, at least we bought the CD at Rasputin´s in Berkeley!
Back in the camper we went to look for a place to brunch. It was so hot in Las Vegas that I thought I would totally faint. We drived to the next town where we found a "Hot Skillets". I had never been to one before but it turn out to be a Mexican Restaurant, so I had some nice beef tacos (carne deshebrada) with red rice, pico de gallo, refried beans and shredded lettuce as side dish. It was so yummy! Klaus had a steak (even though he had had one the night before!) with scramble eggs, hashed potatoes, pico de gallo and refried beans!!! The kids prefered something totally American and had some french toast with scramble eggs and tons of maple syrup.
We then drove all the way to St. George, Utah and actually continued until we reached Zion National Park at around 4 o´clock (new time zone!). There, Klaus realized that he had indeed booked a space at the campground within the park but that he had reserved it for August!! We panicked a bit but fortunately found a spot at a commercial Campground very close to the National Park.
We almost melted because of the heat but at around six o´clock took the shuttle to the park and went to the Weeping Rock where we had a fantastic view of the peaks: Zion is a contrast between the red rock and the green trees fed by the Virgin River. Since it was a lot cooler, we took the shuttle again and walked to the viewpoint for the Three Patriarch:beautiful againn! Suddenly we saw lightnig and heard the thunder announcing a storm but the rain never came!
Back at the campground we wanted to grill some sausages to eat hot-dogs (again!!) but it was very windy and impossible to make a fire so I made some quesadillas and a delicious salad with avocados and tomatos and a cilantro dressing.
While Markus was writing his blog for yesterday, we sat outside and watched the stars. Klaus even saw a shooting one (while I was doing the dishes).
Greetings and love to all of you.
Selma
P.S. pictures to come... they are still in the camera.
